On Tuesday afternoon at my Caringbah South Clinic a 75 year old Female, regular client of mine, presented with her usual aches and pains but has now discovered she has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. “It was so hard to get here” she said (even though she just lives down the road)
“Can massage help that?” I hear you ask,
“I thought massage is supposed to relax you”,
“doesn’t she need an energy boost rather than a chill out session?” Answer is “YES” but massage especially gentle Massage can give the muscles the energy they need on a cellular level.
So what is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome anyway?
Also known as CFS, ‘A disease characterised by profound fatigue, sleep abnormalities, pain and other symptoms that are made worse by exertion. Chronic fatigue syndrome occurs more commonly in women. The cause of this condition is unknown, but may include environmental or genetic factors.

Massage CFS can bring comfort by:
- relaxing the body systems -the whole body is working overtime to keep the mind/body connection functioning
- supporting digestion - some sufferers with CFS don’t want to eat or have the energy to eat, massage can get the ‘digestive juices’ moving
- encouraging the parasympathetic nervous system response - The main purpose of the PNS is to conserve energy to be used later and to regulate bodily functions like digestion and urination.
