Cupping Therapy: Unlocking Myofascial Release for Improved Well-Being
40 year old female, marathon runner and mother of 2, came into my Helensburgh clinic complaining of Right shoulder pain. Uncertain how she hurt it, she felt that the joint was lacking the range of movement she used to have. After the initial warmup massage, I found she had many trigger points over her scapula but more noticeably the restriction of the muscles between her shoulder blades aka ‘rhomboids’. Upon further assessment, I realised the restriction was fascial tightness.
What is Fascia? Fascia is connective tissue in the body that surrounds and supports muscles, organs, and other structures. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the body's structural integrity and facilitating movement. I like to describe it in clinic as gladwrap around your muscles.
One of the best ways to loosen this fascial tightness is with Myofascial Cupping. Myofascial Cupping is used to help with fascial tightness by creating negative pressure, lifting and separating the fascial layers. This can enhance blood flow, reduce adhesions, and promote tissue flexibility.
After working on the affected area with , I’m glad to say my client had increased movement and immediate relief in the shoulder, neck and upper back area.
